Μετά την υποζωγράφιση, άρχισα να προσθέτω χρώματα. Πρώτα δούλεψα με λεπτές ημιδιαφανείς στρώσεις χρωμάτων το φόντο, και κατόπιν άρχισα να δουλεύω τα ενδύματα. Στη συνέχεια ολοκλήρωσα τα πρόσωπα προσπαθώντας να αποδώσω την έκφραση του κάθε ενός. Άφησα για το τέλος τα ελάφια, τα πουλιά και τα λουλούδια, ώστε να βλέπω τη συνολική εικόνα με όλα τα άλλα χρώματα στις μορφές των αγίων και να μπορώ να αποφασίσω πόσο χρώμα να προσθέσω χωρίς να αποσπάται η προσοχή από το κυρίως θέμα.

Upon finishing the underpainting, I started applying the colors in thin translusent layers of paint, first on the background and then on the garments. After that, I worked on the faces trying to capture each person’s unique expression as well as their physical characteristics. I left for last the deer, the birds and the flowers, as I needed to see the overall picture before I decide how much color I could add on these details without distructing the viewer from the main subject.
