“A masterpiece of Byzantine art”, “an outstanding example of the middle period of Byzantine religious architecture”, built in 11th century the second golden age of Byzantine art, with admirable mosaics on a gold background, “unique artistic achievements”, are some of the expressions used by UNESCO, to describe this amazing monument in our neighboring municipality of Haidari, Attica region, Greece.
The place took it’s name from the sanctuary of Daphnios Appolo, (Daphni = Laurel in Greek) which was built there, on the Sacred Way, the road leading from Athens to Eleusis during the ancient times.
I am not going to write information, dates, etc. as you can find everything in the links bellow. I am just posting a photo gallery as an inspiration to all of you.
